Family Therapy

Working with a family therapist is a unique experience because there are multiple people involved during the sessions. Our clinicians specialize in Family Systems Theories, meaning we work to help the family function better even when the family believes that one person might be “the problem”. SOZO therapists are passionate about making each family member feel seen and safe in each therapy session.

We offer several specialized types of therapy for families.

Family related issues –Being a part of a family should be one of the greatest gifts in all of life. However, many families face challenges that have been part of their story for generations, and each new person that comes into a family brings the possibility of joy and pain. At SOZO, each clinician who works with families has been trained in unique tools to help families communicate and function in a more trustworthy, respectful and loving way.

Parent/Child difficulties –When it comes to raising our amazing, talented children, we can find that our own hurts and pains, and the life stages of our children come head to head with each other. Each child at some point should use their voice, find their own way and learn to stand on their own two feet. However this process of transitioning from one stage to another can be hard. Our family therapists understand these life stages and how easy it can be to get caught in unhealthy cycles of interacting with our children. We will work to identify the negative patterns, empower each voice in the room, and find common ground to work from to promote change and healing.

Adult Child/Parent relationships – Sometimes we can find ourselves wondering, “How did we get here? We had a great relationship when they were young, and now that they are adults, it seems like we cannot get along. Making life stage transitions can be full of difficulties. We might find that our older parents “just don’t get it”, or our emerging adult children “just don’t understand what we went through”. At SOZO, our family therapists are skilled at helping each person find their voice in the relationship, set healthy boundaries and ask for what they want in this adult-to-adult relationship. In clearly communicating and setting these boundaries, we can accept reality and work together to find a path forward to love and care for each other.
