Kids & teens
As a parent, your child’s well being is the most important concern in your life. At SOZO, we have specialty trained clinicians who will work with you and your child to diagnose the issue correctly, work with the parents and child to resolve behavior and mood challenges, and offer ongoing tools that help you love your child well throughout the many stages of life change.
We offer several specialized types of therapy for kids and teens.
Behavior issues – Feelings are real, and sometimes feelings are really BIG. At SOZO, we believe in the good of each child and that behavior problems are their way of trying to use their voice to find help and love. Our family therapists work with parents to discover what their child is trying to communicate, offer new ways of communicating and new skills for parents to listen, love, set limits and lay a foundation for success in the future.
Diagnosis – Occasionally, we face a situation where a child is displaying unique behavior, learning and/or emotional challenges. Each of our therapists are licensed professional clinicians able to diagnose and treat your child. We know that your greatest concern is the well being of your child. We take that love very seriously and work with you to accurately diagnose and offer real skills and solutions to these issues. If we cannot find a path forward, we will work hard to provide a referral for you to an expert who can help you find answers and solutions that make a difference and set your child up for success in this world.
Mood Disorders – Growing up is hard work! As children reach upper elementary, middle school and high school, sometimes life is really difficult to manage and depression and anxiety, addictions, and other behavioral issues begin to emerge as a way to cope. Coping skills are a very important ability to nurture and develop. At SOZO, our therapists will work with your child to help them explore and develop coping skills that are less harmful and relationally problematic. Our therapists have a unique way to connect with your developing child, help them feel known, and use their voice to promote change in their life and relationships.
Trauma – Unfortunately, this world can be really painful to our children. Sometimes, they have painful and powerless experiences that leave them traumatized, living in fear, struggling with addictive behaviors, and fostering unhealthy relationships. We believe that all behaviors make sense in context and far too often, that context is a traumatic experience that has left your child feeling helpless and hopeless. SOZO therapists are trauma informed and each have specific training in effective, evidence-based trauma interventions. These interventions such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and Psychoanalytic therapy can offer them hope, empowerment, and restore joy in their lives.
